dredge: web page to markdown
dredge is a terminal tool by Quiet Engines that pulls clean markdown out of a web page. Paste a link, get the article: no navigation, no ads, no cookie banners. It is FND-003 in the Foundry, free on npm, and works for people at a terminal and for coding agents alike.
Install
dredge requires Node 18 or newer.
npm install -g @quietengines/dredge
Run it once without installing:
npx @quietengines/dredge <url>
If global writes are blocked, as they often are on agent machines, add
--prefix ~/.local to the install command. The installed command is dredge.
Usage
dredge
dredge https://example.com/article
dredge https://example.com/article -o note.md
dredge url1 url2 url3 -d notes/
cat urls.txt | dredge -
dredge https://example.com/article --json
Bare dredge opens the full-screen prompt. A URL writes markdown to stdout;
-o writes one URL to a file; -d writes one file per URL;
- reads URLs from stdin; -c copies the result to the clipboard.
The default output is markdown with YAML frontmatter; --html and
--json are also available. It needs no API keys, and only the page request
leaves the machine.
